No Melo No Problem In New Jersey As They Deal For Williams


New Jersey didn't land Carmelo Anthony New York did. However the Nets did make a trade acquiring Jazz point guard and All Star Deron Williams. New Jersey will now try to ink Williams to a contract extension this summer. Williams can become a free agent after the 2011 season. Utah will receive rookie Derrick Favors and point guard Devin Harris in return. This deal comes about two weeks after Deron Williams and former Utah head coach Jerry Sloan had their final argument. Sloane after 20 plus seasons in Utah, retired from the Jazz. Where do both franchises go from here? Will Utah make the Western Conference playoffs? Can Williams make a difference in New Jersey long term?

Melo Drama Over Former Nugget Becomes New Knick


Carmelo Anthony has been a Denver Nugget since 2003. Anthony has been the face of the Nuggets franchise for 8 seasons after winning a National Championship, during his freshmen season at Syracuse University. Anthony will be back in the state of New York as a player, this time he will play his home games at the Worlds Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden. Denver figured they had to get someone in return for Anthony, Carmelo may have opted out of his contract this summer and become a free agent. Along with Anthony Denver sent Chauncey Billups to New York. Denver recieved Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton and Wilson Chandler. Where do the Nuggets go from here? How far can New York go from here? Now Carmelo is a Knick along with Amare, will the team make a play next season for the point guard talents of Chris Paul or Deron Williams? Only time will tell. Anthony has inked a 3 year extension with New York along with the trade.

Lavin Leads St. Johns To Another Garden Upset


Steve Lavin is in his first season at St. John's. Lavin coached at UCLA previously, after leaving the Bruins, he worked as an analyst at ESPN. St. John's had already beaten the likes of Duke in blowout fashion at Madison Square Garden. The Pittsburgh Panthers came into New York City on Saturday ranked in the top five. They left with a one point defeat on a last second reverse lay up. Once again the Red Storm had pulled a top 25 upset at the World's Most Famous Arena. Many believed St. Johns were still on the bubble heading into the game. After Saturday, the Storm has to be an at large lock within the new field of 68. Lavin and his team are getting it done in the Big East Conference, which is regarded the best conference in college basketball. Everyone will be looking forward to see how St. John's plays the rest of the regular season and Big East Tournament. Lavin is making a case for National Coach Of The Year and Big East Coach Of The Year.

Newton Sets Rookie Endorsement Deal


Cam Newton, fresh off a season of controversy from his father, Heisman Trophy and most recently a National Championship, now he breaks another record. Newton will surpass the deal Adidas signed Reggie Bush to as a rookie. Newton wore Under Armor as an Auburn Tiger, he will wear Under Armor at the next level. Under Armor not only paid Newton major money, he will also have his own signature shoe and clothing line with the company. Cam Newton has been working out for scouts, leading up to the draft. It will be interesting to see where he will land in the upcoming draft. Also it will be interesting to see how scouts view him, strickly as a quarterback or maybe another position.

2010 NFL Comeback Player Of The Year Set To Appear On Oprah


Michael Vick helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the NFC East and make a playoff appearance, while finishing the 2010 season with a 10-6 record. During the week of Superbowl XLV Vick was named the 2010 NFL Comeback Player Of The Year, now Micheal Vick will appear on the Oprah Winfrey show, set to air Thursday February 24Th. Vick and Winfrey will discuss all the things Michael has gone through with prison and dog fighting, along with making an electrifing return to the National Football League. Vick has also recieved him first endorsement deal since reintering the league.

Kansas Ranked Number One Loses Same Day To Pullen & Kansas State


Kansas State, helped Kansas understand the new meaning of one and done. That term is usually reserved for the NCAA Tournament. Monday evening in Manhattan, Kansas, Kansas State defeated top ranked Kansas. Many believed Texas should have been ranked number one after defeating Kansas on the road earlier this season. However voters selected Kansas over number two ranked Texas as the number one ranked team in the nation. Let's see, that lasted all but one day. Senior guard Jacob Pullen scored a career high 38 points, to give Kansas State a much needed statement and conference win. Kansas State will go into Selection Sunday with a key win on their resume. Once the new polls debut next week, their will be a new number one, if Texas can make it out the week undefeated, the Longhorns will probably become the top ranked team in the country. This loss may be a learning experience for the Jayhawks, they blewout their in state rivals at home earlier this season. Kansas may have been over confident coming into the game.

Doug Collins Possible Coach Of The Year


Doug Collins left TNT to become head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, the franchise that drafted him number one overall in the 1970's. Collins coached the Bulls & Pistons previously among other teams. Collins coached Michael Jordan and Grant Hill. Philadelphia struggled to start the 2010-11 NBA season. As the NBA All Star break nears, Philadelphia is close to .500. These 76ers don't have an All Star player, they are getting the job done with defense. Collins preaches defense, defense and more defense to the team. Holliday and Turner are young guards learning from veterans Brand and Iguodala. Collins is getting excellent bench play from Young and Williams. Philadelphia will be an interesting team to pay attention to, during the second half of the season. Doug Collins should recieve consideration for the award.

Badgers Defeat Number One Buckeyes In Basketball This Time


Ohio State football, Ohio State basketball it doesn't matter the Wisconsin Badgers know how to defeat, undefeated and number one ranked teams. This past fall Wisconsin utilized home field advantage to defeat Ohio State, this weekend the last remaining undefeated team in college basketball went down. Wisconsin utilized home court advantage to seize the moment in Madison. Jordan Taylor led a second half comeback for the Badgers, he took over after the Buckeyes took a 15 point lead. Wisconsin repeated basketball history as they defeated an undefeated number one ranked Ohio State team in the early 1960's.

Love Replaces Yao On Western Conference All Star Roster


Kevin Love was named to the Western Conference All Star roster as a replacement for Yao Ming, Ming was voted in as a starter, due to injury he will not play. NBA Commissioner David Stern made the call last week. Yes, Love does play for a last place team in Minnesota. However the numbers he's putting up in a Timberwolves uniform are outstanding. Career highs in both points and rebounds, he's average 21.3 & 15.6 respectively. Love currently leads the National Basketball Association in rebounds. The 3rd year man from UCLA is also knocking down the three at 43%, while shooting 87% from the free throw line. He's had monster games this season of 30 plus points in games to go along with 20 and 30 plus rebounds.

Larry Fitzgerald Would Like Kevin Kolb As Signal Caller


Larry Fitzgerald, is one of the National Football League best wide receivers, he will be entering the final year of his contract during the 2011 season. While in North Texas for Superbowl XLV, rumors surfaced, Fitzgerald was asked by Arizona Cardinals management, who would he like as his next quarterback? Arizona would like to keep the face of their franchise and it say's plenty if they truly asked for his input. The team Arizona beat in the 2008 NFC Championship Game to reach Superbowl XLIII were the Philadelphia Eagles. Kevin Kolb was drafted in 2007 and sat behind Donovan McNabb. McNabb was dealt Kolb was named starter, during the first game of the season he suffered a concussion vs. Green Bay. Michael Vick played lights out when he was given his chance to start and never looked back. Kolb never regained his job, he only started when Vick was unable to. Kolb started a pair of games in 2009 and four in 2010, he showed promise and mistakes, he also wants to start. Arizona has a need at quarterback they struggled during the season with multiple signal callers. Arizona has a top ten first round pick and early second round pick in the upcoming draft. We will see if anything gets worked out between Philadelphia and Arizona for the services of Kevin Kolb.

Green Bay Finally Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood Packers Win Superbowl XLV


Steve Young said "get this monkey off my back" after winning Superbowl XXIX. Young was finally able to win the big game after playing in the shadows of 49ers legend Joe Montana. Aaron Rodgers didn't utilize the same quote after the Packers defeated the Steelers in Superbowl XLV. However with this MVP performance and victory he has just as many Superbowl titles as Brett Favre the Packers legend. Along with the defense led by Clay Matthews after Charles Woodson and Sam Shields went down, the Packers were able to survive and win on football biggest stage 31-25. Rodgers out played Ben Big, it was Ben who looked liked he was playing for title number two opposed to the guy who was playing in his first Superbowl. Big Ben threw two interceptions, one was returned for a touchdown by safety Nick Collins. Green Bay loss offensive emotional leader Donald Driver as well. Injuries have been the story of this team during the season and they didn't miss a beat with a victory on Super Sunday. Pittsburgh was denied of it's 7th overall Superbowl and 3rd in 6 years, while Green Bay won it's first title in 14 years.

Primetime High Steps Into 2011 NFL Hall Of Fame Class


Primetime is heading to Canton, Ohio in August. Deion Sanders heads a seven man 2011 NFL Hall Of Fame Class. Marshall Faulk, Shannon Sharpe, Richard Dent, Ed Sabol, Chris Hanburger and Les Richter will join him. Many believe Sanders is the best cornerback ever to play the game. While Faulk could be the most versitale running back to play the game, with his running and recieving skills. Dent didn't get as much hype as teammate Mike Singletary, however he was important in the success of the Bears 46 defense. Shannon Sharpe talked the talked and backed it up as one of the best pass catching tight ends the game has ever witnessed. Thanks to Ed Sabol and his brain child NFL Films, the league was able to go to another level in popularity. NFL Films made watching highlights more enjoyable with the orchestra music and on the field microphones used during games.
