Southwest Philly Floater Sends #13 LaSalle To 1st Sweet 16 Since 1955

Philadelphia native, Bartram High School alumnus Tyrone Garland made an impressive last second layup over a 6'9 Ole Miss defender. That layup which won the game for LaSalle, was called the 'Southwest Philly Floater' by Garland during a post game interview. It has not been an easy road for La Salle or Garland. Ty committed to Virginia Tech and didn't see much playing time. This season he came home to Philadelphia. He comes off the bench for the Explorers, yet he finishes the games. Garland along with Duren, Galloway and Mills can all shoot, dribble and pass. They make it very difficult for opponents to defend the perimeter no matter if it's man or zone defense. What a week for the next to last team in terms of at large bid for the NCAA's. Dayton,OH for First Four win vs. Boise State. Off to Kansas City, Friday defeat Kansas State by 2 and Sunday knock off Ole Miss by 2. Now the Explorers are off to LA, where they'll take on #9 Wichita State who beat #1 seed Gonzaga, prior to that they beat #8 Pittsburgh. Both teams are playing inspiring basketball. LaSalle is the last Big 5 and Atlantic 10 standing. Enjoy the moment because 1955 was a long time ago, so was 1992 the last time LaSalle made the NCAA's or 1990 the last time they won a game in the tournament. Dr. John Giannini has done a wonderful job with this group. Once he lost big man Zack he had only one big man left Wright, who made critical free throws down the stretch vs. Kansas State. The winner of the Explorers / Shockers game will be Elite 8 bound

During NCAA Tourname Flordia Gulf Coast Has Become Dunk City Like NBA LA Clippers Lob City

In the NBA the LA Clippers have Lob City led by Chris Paul who on a nightly basis connect with De'Andre Jordan and Blake Griffin for highlight dunks. Well this past weekend in Philadelphia,PA #15 seed Florida Gulf Coast knocked out #2 seed Georgetown and #7 seed San Diego State. The Eagles made history becoming the 1st fifteen seed to advance to the Sweet 16. They'll take on the Florida Gators later in the week, with an Elite 8 trip on the line. FGCU blew away the Hoyas and Aztecs. Extremely athletic with dunks layups and tip ins. Brett Comer the 6'3 sophomore point guard throws the lobs for Dunk City. The recipients of those passes : 6'4 senior guard from Orlando Sherwood Brown, Chase Fieler 6'8 junior forward from West Virgina and Eric McKnight the 6'9 redshirt sophomore forward from North Carolina. They are coached by Andy Enfield who's in his 2nd season on the sidelines in Ft. Myers. His spouse is a former super model, meaning coach Enfield made millions going into an investment business previously. Life is good wouldn't you say so. Enjoy all the success coach, players, university and students. They are making your school proud, a school that wasn't even around 25 years ago and 5 years ago couldn't compete in the NCAA Tournament. Everyone enjoy the moment ! This is truly what March Madness is about.

Bradley vs. Provodnikov Slugfest Could Be 2013 Fight Of The Year Already

Tim Bradley what a way to come out after a 10 month layoff, following a split decision win over Manny Pacquiao. Ruslan Provodnikov from Russia came into Carson,CA and gave Desert Storm all he can handle and then some. Maybe the fight could have been ruled a draw or even Ruslan could have won. Provodnikov early on in the fight knocked Bradley down a few times, yet was only awarded 10-9 rounds instead of 10-8. Referee called a few of those knock downs slips. Both showed heart and pretty good chins. Even when both fighters where hurt throughout the fight, basically out on their feet, they just kept throwing punches. Bradley hung on in the 12th round and escaped. Maybe he was saved by the bell because he was hurt and holding on for dear life. I'm sure fight fans would not mind seeing Bradley vs. Provodnikov again despite it was ruled unanimous decision for Tim. Certainly action packed fight each and every round. Encore ! Bradley also acknowledged in post fight interview he may have had a concussion.

Lebron & Heat Are Still Streaking With & Without Wade

Dwyane Wade has sat out the last two games nursing an injury. Miami has gone from a 25 game win streak to 27 straight wins. Miami won at home vs. Charlotte, then knocked off the Magic in Orlando following another slow start. The Heat are 6 wins shy of tying the NBA all time win streak of 33 straight set by the 1971-72 Lakers. No Wade no problem along with James, Miami has seen contributions from Chalmers, Battier, Lewis, Allen, Bird Man etc... Turning defense into offense with live ball turnovers leading to layups threes dunks also and ones. The Bulls are the next opponent up for Miami later this week in Chicago. The Heat are 56-14 and currently hold a 3 game lead over San Antonio for the best record in the NBA. Which could be critical if these two teams were to meet in the NBA Finals

Andre Iguodala & Denver Nuggets 15 Game Win Streak Snapped

T
In the Mile High city, the fans of the Nuggets saw Denver win 15 straight games, the 2nd longest streak in the NBA this season. Lebron James and the Miami Heat are currently on a 27 game win streak (and counting). Denver fell to 17-20 on the road following a 110-86 loss in New Orleans. The Hornets jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 24 point win. Denver have a mixture of players doing their thing (Iguodala, Lawson, Miller, Faried, Brewer, McGee etc...let's not forget head coach George Karl as well. Denver find themselves 4th in the Western Conference playoff race at 49-23. They have an incredible home record at the Pepsi Center of  32-3 tied with the Heat for best home record in the association. If the playoffs started today the Nuggets would take on Memphis. The Grizzlies are only 1 game behind the Nuggets for that 4th seed, which assures home court advantage in round one.

Chicago Blackhawks Point Streak Ends At 24 Games / Miami Heat Win Streak Continues At 18 Games

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane helped bring a Stanley Cup title to Chicago back in 2010, when the Blackhawks defeated the Philadelphia Flyers. Both All Star players help led the Hawks to 24 consecutive point streak to open up the strike shortened 2012-13 NHL season. The Colorado Avalanche ended the run a few days ago. Obviously Chicago is the overall NHL points leader. Miami is currently on a 18 game win streak led by the Big 3 of Lebron James, D. Wade and Chris Bosh. The NBA defending champions are looking to go back to back. I firmly believe unless they meet the Spurs in the Finals any other opponent will go down. Heat have flaws despite their streak however teams aren't able to explode those as much as they would like. The Heat are getting it done during their streak from a defensive standpoint. They are utilizing their defense to jump start their offense and leak out in transition. Miami also gets to the free line as well. Will the Chicago Blackhawks and Miami Heat win the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals this season ? Let's see which one of these teams, maybe even both will have a parade in their respective cities come June.

Air Jordan XIII 'He Got Game' Retro Release This Week Movie Was Full Of Kicks !

The year was 1998, Spike Lee teamed up with Denzel Washington and Ray Allen to make the film 'He Got Game'. During the film several Nike and Jordan sneakers were worn throughout. Jake Shuttlesworth played by Denzel Washington early on & Jesus Shuttlesworth played by Ray Allen later on in the movie rocked the Air Jordan XIII's. This upcoming weekend on March 16 Jordan Brand will release the 'He Got Game' colorway featured in the movie. Let's not forget about Booger played by Hill Harper, he balled in the Penny Foamposite One during a pickup game. Allen, Harper and their high school teammates Travis Best, Walter McCarty and John Wallace rocked Nike Air Uptempo 97's. Jesus Shuttlesworth even rocked a pair of Nike Pro Pearls. He also rocked a pair of Nike Air Max Uptempo 98' on the movie poster cover. I'm sure Jordan Brand will probably have a limited edition of 'He Got Game' XIII's available, lately it's been all about being 'exclusive'. I've watched the movie several times, so may times I lost count. Ray Allen, Denzel Washington and Hill Harper are some of my favorite people. We are coming up on 15 years since the film debuted yet it feels like yesterday. I remember going to watch the movie on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania at age 16 while in 11th grade a Parkway (Gamma) Program high school. Allen has been one of my favorite basketball players since his college days at UConn.

Indiana Hoosiers Should Be #1 Overall NCAA Tournament (That'll Be Wide Open) Seed

The University of Indiana Hoosiers will look to add a National Championship banner to their home gym of Assembly Hall. The other 3 number one seedings are up for grabs two weeks prior to Selection Sunday. This year NCAA Tournament will be knock down drag them out and wide open. Teams like Duke Michigan Miami Gonzaga Kansas Florida Georgetown are in the mix for the other 1 seeds. Clearly the Big Ten has been the best conference in basketball this season. Over the past few weeks Georgetown has come out of the Big East with their strong play to get in the conversation of the one line. I really think this year even more than other seasons, seeding will mean nothing. Really expect more madness this March than usual. Back to Indiana they have not won a National Championship since 1987 head coach Tom Creane and his basketball team led by Cody Zeller will look to change that. Outside of those teams I mentioned as potential one seeds so many other teams can do Final Four damage : Louisville and Syracuse from the Big East, NC State from the ACC, Arizona and UCLA from the Pac 12, Kansas State from the Big 12, Butler and VCU from the Atlantic 10, Michigan State and Wisconsin from the Big 10. With Championship Week coming up as teams battle it out in conference tournaments, many squads will play their way in and out of the NCAA field or build their respective resumes for better seedings.

After 20 Years Reebok Shaq Attack Retro Coming Soon

Shaquille O'Neal was the 1st pick of the 1992 NBA Draft. O'Neal was drafted by the Orlando Magic after leaving LSU early for the NBA. Reebok and Shaq became sneaker endorsement partners. Not since the playing days Wilt Chamberlain had the National Basketball Association witnessed a dominating physical force prior to Shaq. Midway through Shaq rookie campaign he rocked his debut signature shoe : Rebook Shaq Attack. Companies are following the Nike and Brand Jordan concepts of re releasing various sneakers from the past. Mid April Shaq who recently celebrated his 40th birthday will see his rookie shoe back on the market. Swizz Beats has done a great job bringing Reebok back to the sneaker landscape he's had a helping hand in the Iverson retros, ditto for Emmit Smith, now O'Neal and I'm pretty sure more to follow.

1997 The Year Nike Foamposites Where Born

Anfernee 'Penny' Hardaway the do it all 6'7 point guard of the Orlando Magic was in his 4th NBA season. He was really the man beside Mickey Mouse down in the Magic Kingdom. Shaquille O'Neal left via free agency for the Los Angeles Lakers, the Magic were really Penny's team now. The all star did not disappoint, midway through the 1996-97 Hardaway would debut this Nike basketball sneaker never witnessed before. This shiny blue sneaker with a shade of black seemed futuristic was priced at $180 to the public, more expensive than Nike Air Jordans. The name of this sneaker was Nike Air Foamposite One. Penny years later would tell the story of having to utilize a black sharpie in the ridges of the shoe. Why ? The National Basketball Association said it wasn't black enough to match his uniform which could equate to a fine. Michael Jordan early on in his career could relate to Nike shoes and NBA fines. Many of us basketball junkies 1st saw the Foamposite One debuted by University of Arizona freshman point guard Mike Bibby during the Wildcats National Championship run through the NCAA Tournament. Now years later the Foamposite line has a life of it's own as sneaker heads love each and every design and the $220 retail price that follows.
