Penn State Bowl Ban Lifted

The Penn State Nittany Lions are off to a 4-0 start to being the 2014 college football season. Saturday the Nittany Lions will play host to the Northwestern Wildcats. New head coach James Franklin the Pennsylvania native who was hired from Vanderbilt, once Bill O'Brien left Happy Valley for the NFL has been informed his team is bowl eligible immediately. Sophomore quarterback Christian Hackenberg leads the Penn State offense. He led the Nittany Lions to a last second come back win over in Ireland vs. Central Florida. Penn State loss leading receiver Allan Robinson to the NFL and several offensive lineman as well. Thus far Hackenberg has had to carry the offense due to the inexperience offensive line and inability to run the football constantly. I never thought the Penn State football program especially the current student athletes and coaching staff should be subjected to what Jerry Sandusky or even Joe Paterno did and didn't do respectively. Now that the bowl ban and post season ban is lifted the Nittany Lions are also eligible to play in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Mayweather Jr. Remains Undefeated Defeats Maidana Again

Floyd Mayweather Jr. beat Marcos Maidana a few weeks ago during their rematch.
During their first fight Mayweather Jr. won a split or majority decision. Maidana actually bruised Floyd some what back in May. Fast forward to September TBE (The Best Ever) or TMT (The Money Team) are the names Floyd calls his self won a unanimous decision over Marcos. Only issue in this fight was an alleged Maidana bite to Mayweather Jr. glove in the 8th round. Floyd claimed in his post fight interview his hand was numb for the final 3-4 rounds of the bout. Of course Marcos claimed he never bit his opponent glove. However he did complain the referee would not stop Floyd from constantly holding. Money Mayweather is nearing the end of his Showtime/CBS contract. Many boxing experts wonder who Floyd will fight next in 2015. Here are some possible candidates : Amir Khan or a rematch with Miguel Cotto. Guys like Keith Thurman or Philadelphia's own Danny Garcia could also be opponent options as well.

Pittsburgh Pirates Are Playoff Bound Again

The Pittsburgh Pirates are going back to the MLB Playoffs. The Pirates are heading to the postseason in back to back years for the 1st time since 1991 and 1992. Back in 2013 Pittsburgh made the playoffs for the 1st time in 21 years. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh their Pirates loss in the NL Wild Card round. This is the last week of the 2014 regular season, even though the Pirates clinched a playoff berth, it has not been decided if they will go in as a Wild Card or Division Champion. St. Louis is trying to win the NL Central however Pittsburgh is attempting to catch and pass them. It's possible the two NL Central rivals could meet in October. Maybe maybe not. We shall see. PNC Park will be rocking this October for the 2nd straight season.

Beltway Teams Playoff Bound Once Again

Their will be October baseball played inside of Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Their will be October baseball played inside of Nationals Park.
Here come the AL East Champion Baltimore Orioles.
Here come the NL East Champion Washington Nationals.
These two teams made the playoffs together back in 2012.
The Nationals won their 2nd division title in 3 years.
Meanwhile the Orioles won their 1st division title since 1997.
During their last playoff appearances both Beltway teams made early exits.
Both squads have excellent talent especially when it comes to pitching.
How far will the Orioles and Nationals go in October, will remain to be seen.
Could you imagine the region if both teams meet in the Fall Classic !

College Football Playoff Is Here

The NCAA Division 1 debate should be over, however will it really be over ? Starting with the current 2014 season through 2025 their will be a 4 team playoff to decide a National Champion in college football. When January 2015 arrives this season Semifinals will take place at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. Pasadena, California and New Orleans, Louisiana will be the host cities. The National Championship Game will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. The computer voting system is out. Now athletic directors and other college football representatives will play a role in selecting the Final 4 teams. As this article is written the 2014 season is approaching Week 5. Florida State,  Alabama, Oregon and Oklahoma are the current favorites. However this is college football which means with conference play and conference championship games nothing is etched in stone. ESPN has the broadcasting rights to this new playoff system. Meanwhile Dr. Pepper is the new playoff system sponsor. Every college football fan should enjoy the journey because it will be an interesting season and even better finish !
