KD Continues To Post Insane #s While Leading OKC To Victory

Kevin Durant lost his running mate Russell Westbrook earlier this season, he will return in a matter of weeks. He was also without his teammate for most of last season playoffs. Oklahoma would defeat Houston to move on to the 2nd round before losing to Memphis. Kevin Durant clearly has his eyes on the prize trying to get back to the NBA Finals. During the 2012 NBA Finals the Miami Heat would go on to win 4 straight and knock off Oklahoma City 4-1. Durant has never won a regular season NBA MVP award but that could be over at season end. Currently OKC has a 32-10 record only 1/2 game behind San Antonio for the best mark in the Western Conference. The two teams square off tonight in San Antonio. Through 42 games Durant is averaging 30.1ppg/7.8rpg/5.1apg. KD scored a NBA high thus far for the season 54points over the weekend. Kevin also has scored 40 or more points in a game 5 times so far and has scored at least 30 points so far 20 times. Maybe the best has yet to come. Stay tuned.

Wilson Edges Kapernick Seahawks Advance To 2nd Superbowl In Franchise History

What a rivalry Seattle and San Francisco have created in the NFC West. Sunday in Seattle the two teams met for a third time this season. All the money was on the table as the winner would advance to Superbowl XLVIII. Wilson was stripped on the 1st play of the game and the San Francisco offense only got a field goal out of it. The turnover would set the stage of what the day would bring, ebbs and flows of plays being made by both teams. Colin Kapernick would make plays throughout the day with his arm and mainly his legs to give the 49ers the lead for most of the game. However Russell Wilson kept fighting and made plays with his arms and legs to keep his team in it, then finally Seattle took the lead. San Francisco even had a chance to win the game late down by 6 before Richard Sherman deflected a pass intended for Michael Crabtree into the hands of a Seattle teammate for the game winning interception. Regardless of the outcome of the game (a Seahawks 23-17 victory) a black quarterback would be heading to the Superbowl. Seattle will try to win their 1st World Championship in 2 weeks. Meanwhile San Francisco fell just short of getting back to their 2nd straight Superbowl, it was their 3rd straight NFC Championship Game appearance.

Peyton Out Plays Tom Broncos Advance To Superbowl XLVIII

Sunday afternoon in Denver, the Broncos took on the Patriots for the second time this season. Earlier this season in Foxborough the Patriots would comeback from a 24 point deficit to beat the Broncos in overtime. However during the regular season Denver managed to hold off New England by one game to get the AFC #1 seed for home field advantage. The 2013-14 AFC Championship Game would mark the 15th time Tom Brady and Peyton Manning would square off. Coming into the game Brady held a 10-4 lead. The contest on Sunday would mark the third time the pair have met in the AFC Title Game, they were tied 1-1. The Broncos were coming off a record breaking season on offense and wanted to revenge the Divisional round loss a season ago to Baltimore. Meanwhile the Patriots wanted to get back to the Superbowl after losing to those same Ravens in the AFC Championship Game a season ago. Manning on Sunday completed 32 of 43 passes for 400 yards and 2 touchdowns. Meanwhile Brady went 24 for 38 with 277 yards and 1 touchdown. Manning completed throw after throw as his Broncos never trailed. Brady with all the money on the table missed throw after throw throughout the day. Denver would win the AFC and advance to Superbowl XLVIII by a score of 26-16. As sports fans we don't know due to Peyton Manning neck, which he will have checked out at season end, if Sunday was the final battle between the legendary quarterbacks.

Broncos/Chargers 3rd Game Highlight AFC Divisional Playoffs

What's the cliche line ? 3rd time is always a charm. Earlier this season Denver went into San Diego and won. Later this season San Diego went into Denver and won. Yes it's the Divisional round of the AFC playoffs, however for the 6th seeded Chargers they've been in playoff mode the last month. Led by Phillip Rivers their veteran quarterback San Diego didn't clinch a playoff birth until the final game of the season an overtime victory over KC. They also needed Baltimore and Miami to lose just to have a chance and those scenarios happened. Last week after trailing by 3 at halftime vs. Bengals, the Chargers pulled away in the second half scoring 20 unanswered points to move on. Denver led by Peyton Manning broke offensive record after offensive record during the 2013 NFL campaign, nevertheless none of it matters if they don't win the Lombardi trophy. Pressure is obviously on both teams, but there has to be more on Manning & the Broncos who have home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Meanwhile SD has won 5 of their last 7 games in the Mile High City.
Andrew Luck led a historic postseason comeback vs. Kansas City at home last week. Indianapolis trailed the Chiefs 38-10 and rallied to win 45-44 closing the epic comeback out with a 35-6 run. What's their reward for their heroics ? A date with Tom Brady and the Patriots in New England. Brady won another AFC title this season and despite injuries and an inexperience receiving core, he was able to lead the Patriots to a #2 seed and a 1st round bye. Let's see how young Luck does vs. veteran Brady this weekend.
My picks : Patriots and Broncos to win and meet in the AFC Championship Game next Sunday. However I wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers beat their AFC West rivals.

NFC Divisional Playoffs Rematch Weekend

Earlier this season the NFC South champion Carolina Panthers went to San Francisco and took on the defending NFC champion 49ers. What we all ended up viewing was a defensive slug fest, a contest the Panthers won over the 49ers 10-9. Only 1 combined touchdown was scored between the 2 teams. Sunday San Francisco will travel to Charlotte, NC to take on Carolina. It's the rubber match game to decide who will move on to the NFC Championship Game next Sunday. Carolina is coming off a bye week, meanwhile the 49ers went into frigid Lambeau Field and came out with a 23-20 win. Dating back to the 2012 regular season (playoffs included) SF has knocked off Green Bay 4 straight times. Colin Kapernick and his 49ers are a slight favorite heading into the game Sunday vs. Cam Newton and the Panthers. It will be interesting to see how healthy Panthers WR Steve Smith will be after suffering a knee injury in a late season win over New Orleans. On the other side of the bracket fresh off their 1st road playoff win in franchise history, the Saints take on the Seahawks. Seattle has home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. They are well rested after a bye week. Meanwhile New Orleans is looking for revenge after their blow out loss earlier this season in Seattle. My picks : Carolina & Seattle to win and meet next weekend for the right to play in Superbowl XLVIII. However I wouldn't be shocked if the 49ers pulled the victory out on the road.

Texas Boys Brees & Foles Square Off Saints & Eagles Try To Excercise Playoff Demons

Saturday Night, state of Texas natives Drew Brees & Nick Foles will oppose one another at the quarterback position as the Philadelphia Eagles host the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Wild Card round. Both guys attended the same high school obviously several years apart down in Austin. Drew Brees is a Superbowl winning quarterback and Superbowl MVP. Meanwhile Nick Foles only in his 2nd year took over for Michael Vick earlier this season. Philadelphia won the NFC East at 10-6 and New Orleans clinched a playoff birth at 11-5. Last season Philadelphia was blown out in New Orleans in route to a 4-12 season. Philadelphia was blown out at home during the Saints Superbowl winning season of 2009. Back in 2006-07 the Eagles were eliminated in the Divisional round by the Saints. New Orleans finished the season 3-5 on the road. New Orleans are 0-5 lifetime on the road in the NFL postseason. However when the ball is kicked off Saturday Night none of that matters. Philadelphia is in the playoffs for the 1st time since 2010 where they lost to Green Bay which spring boarded the Packers Superbowl winning run. Philadelphia is looking for their 1st playoff win since 2008 when they defeated the Giants in the Divisional round. Philadelphia is looking for their 1st home playoff win since 2006 when they beat Big Blue in the Wild Card round. Someone will get over their playoff hurdle and for the team that doesn't their off season will begin.

Packers Seek Revenge As They Host 49ers

Sunday the Green Bay Packers will host the San Francsico 49ers in the final game of NFL Wild Card weekend. Aaron Rodgers in his 1st game back last week from a broken collarbone saved the Packers season in Chicago. He improvised on 4th down and threw a game winning touchdown to Randall Cobb as the Packers defeated the Bears and won the NFC North. Meanwhile 2 weeks ago on Monday Night football the 49ers won in dramatic fashion on a coast to coast defensive interception for a touchown in the last regular season game at Candlestick vs. Atlanta. That victory secured a San Francisco playoff birth. SF knocked off GB in Week 1 to open the season, eliminated the Packers last season in the Divisional Playoffs and beat the Packers last year during the regular season. Green Bay has gone down in their last 3 games vs. San Francisco. Sunday they have an opportunity to knock off the defending NFC Champions. Lambeau Field will be frigid possibly below zero.

Florida State vs. Auburn Battle For The National Championship

Jameson Winston edged out the field including Tre Mason for the 2013 Heisman Trophy. Monday night January 6, 2014 Winston will lead his Florida Seminoles vs. Mason and the Auburn Tigers. The Rose Bowl in Pasenda, Calfornia will be the site and the stage will be set. ACC vs. SEC can someone please knock off the SEC and take hold of the National Championship trophy. Because in recent years the likes of Alabama and Florida won the trophy multiple times along with LSU and Auburn. Florida State would be the 1st non SEC to win the title since Vince Young led Texas over Reggie Bush and USC at the 2006 Rose Bowl. I'm sure Tre Mason would love to be a National Champion. Auburn has been the team of destiny through out the season or so it seems. It'll be a fantastic game, however I have to go with Auburn winning by a nose.

Penn State Loss Of O'Brien Is Houston Texans Gain

Bill O'Brien became Pennsylvania State University 15th football coach in school history on January 7, 2012. Bill O'Brien became the Houston Texans head coach officially on January 3, 2014. Bill O'Brien is back in the NFL after being an assistant coach in New England from 2007-11. He's most remembered for his in game sideline argument with Tom Brady. Despite all the sanctions the NCAA handed down to Penn State following the Jerry Sandusky fall out, O'Brien led the Nittany Lions to a 15-9 record overall in 2 seasons and 10-6 in the Big Ten. Penn State in what would be O'Brien last game as head coach knocked off Wisconsin on the road. Last off season Bill O'Brien name was in the mix for NFL head coaching jobs, he fielded a few interviews but decided to come back to University Park. However the Houston Texans obviously made him an offer he couldn't refuse, so he won't be coming back to Happy Valley. Houston started the 2013 season 2-0 and went on to lose 14 straight games. Their 2-14 record will get the Texans the #1 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. O'Brien and his staff will have to address several things, number one issue is the quarterback position. It'll be interesting to see who'll be in the running to replace O'Brien at Penn State.
