The Kid Retires

Ken Griffey Jr. retired from Seattle Mariners during his second stint with the franchise, he came to the major leagues with and MLB lost a future Hall of Famer with that wonderful smile. 1990-99 ten consecutive AL Gold Glove awards, with great center field play, leaping, diving, spectacular catches, some that took away potential home runs and unfortunately resulted into injury. Griffey won 1997 AL MVP won 3 home run derby's as well, certainly a fan favorite all around baseball, even played on the same Mariner team as his father Griffey Sr. during the start of Junior career. Ken Griffey Jr. played for Cincinnati, Chicago White Sox, however he will be known as a Seattle Mariner. Classic 1995 ALDS series slide at home plate to win series vs. New York Yankees as Seattle faced 2-0 deficit in series. Griffey was a five tool player, could hit for average, power, base stealing speed and great defense. Ken had his own shoe line with Nike, which was extremely successful. Griffey retires with 630 homeruns.
