ACC Boys Grant Hill & Jerry Stackhouse Tried To Put Fila On The Map In The 1990's
Grant Hill and Jerry Stackhouse had more in common than just playing basketball in the ACC. Hill played for Duke, while Stackhouse played for rival UNC. Both players even played for the Detroit Pistons early on during their NBA careers. Hill arrived in the NBA in 1994, Fila laced Grant with his own signature shoe. Stackhouse would arrive in the NBA in 1995, Fila laced Jerry with his own signature shoe. During the mid 90's outside of Nike, Fila was competing with the likes of Reebok and Adidas. Neither Hill or Stackhouse lived up to their potential in the NBA, mainly due to injuries. Hill is currently the oldest player in the league, however he's productive and more importantly a leader for the Phoenix Suns. Fila geared both player sneakers toward the youth. Several elementary, middle school and high school students wore Fila's endorsed by Grant and Jerry. However the company in recent years has not been in the basketball sneaker game. Other companies such as Under Armor along with Asian sneaker companies have come along and prior to those companies And1 made a splash during the early 2000's.
