What's the cliche line ? 3rd time is always a charm. Earlier this season Denver went into San Diego and won. Later this season San Diego went into Denver and won. Yes it's the Divisional round of the AFC playoffs, however for the 6th seeded Chargers they've been in playoff mode the last month. Led by Phillip Rivers their veteran quarterback San Diego didn't clinch a playoff birth until the final game of the season an overtime victory over KC. They also needed Baltimore and Miami to lose just to have a chance and those scenarios happened. Last week after trailing by 3 at halftime vs. Bengals, the Chargers pulled away in the second half scoring 20 unanswered points to move on. Denver led by Peyton Manning broke offensive record after offensive record during the 2013 NFL campaign, nevertheless none of it matters if they don't win the Lombardi trophy. Pressure is obviously on both teams, but there has to be more on Manning & the Broncos who have home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Meanwhile SD has won 5 of their last 7 games in the Mile High City.
Andrew Luck led a historic postseason comeback vs. Kansas City at home last week. Indianapolis trailed the Chiefs 38-10 and rallied to win 45-44 closing the epic comeback out with a 35-6 run. What's their reward for their heroics ? A date with Tom Brady and the Patriots in New England. Brady won another AFC title this season and despite injuries and an inexperience receiving core, he was able to lead the Patriots to a #2 seed and a 1st round bye. Let's see how young Luck does vs. veteran Brady this weekend.
My picks : Patriots and Broncos to win and meet in the AFC Championship Game next Sunday. However I wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers beat their AFC West rivals.
