The New York Yankees, the defending World Series Champions, are looking for their 28Th World Championship. The Yankees advanced for the first time as a Wild Card team, which came into play along with the Division Series in 1995. Minnesota simply has struggled time and time again to defeat New York during the regular season or post season. For the second straight season, the Yankees opened up the playoffs by defeating the Twins and advancing to the ALCS, they'll await the winner of the Tampa/Texas ALDS series. Unlike last season the Yankees swept through the Twins in three games. New York won the first two games in Minneapolis at new Target Field, then came home Saturday night to complete the task. Now they'll get a few days of rest prior to their next series starting.
