Rams...Patriots Super Bowl LIII
The New England Patriots for the ninth time under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are headed to the Super Bowl for the 9th time. New England is 5-3 which includes last season Super Bowl LII defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Rams are in the Super Bowl for the first time since 2001-02. The Rams are in the Super Bowl for the first time since moving back to Los Angeles in 2016. Last week both teams won conference championship games on the road in New Orleans and Kansas City respectively. Many will say both games had controversial moments as well . Third year quarterback Jared Goff will be opposed by 18 year veteran Tom Brady. 2nd year coach Sean McVay will be returning to the Atlanta area where he played high school football. Atlanta has hosted the Super Bowl two difffent times : (1994) Dallas over Buffalo and (2000) St. Louis over Tennessee.
Sixers Add Butler Process Continues
During the 2018 NBA Playoffs the Philadelphia 76ers won a round. Philadelphia defeated Miami 4-1 in round one. During the second round the 76ers season ended in 5 games to the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were minus Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, both players were out for the season due to their respective injuries. Fast forward to the start of the 2018-19 NBA season the 76ers new general manager Elton Brand made a major move. Brand, traded Robert Covington, Dario Saric and veteran J. Bayless to Minnesota for Jimmy Butler (and Justin Patton). Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons now have a third running mate. The goal for Philadelphia is win the Atlantic division, qualify for a top four seed in the Eastern Conference and make an attempt at making the NBA Finals for the first time since 2001. Since arriving in Philadelphia this past November Butler hit a pair of game winning jump shots. One was against the Hornets in Charlotte, and the other was in Brooklyn against the Nets. The NBA calendar will soon shift to February. Maybe the front office in Philadelphia will add some pieces from a depth standpoint to round out their bench.
