Coach Of 1985 'Perfect' Championship Game Passes Away
After a lengthy battle with is declining health this past week Rollie Massimino passed away in Florida. The man who brought the first national title to Villanova in 1985, is a mentor of Jay Wright. Coach Massimino in the late 80's hired Wright as a graduate assistant. Fast forward to 2016 Massimino health wasn't good and he missed the National Semifinal vs. Oklahoma. Nonetheless two nights later in Houston, he was there to see Villanova beat North Carolina. His former graduate assistant had coached Villanova to their 2nd title in school history. Massimo led his guys on a historic run in 1985 pre shot clock. Yet a historic run nonetheless. Tremendous shooting vs. Big East rival Georgetown helped the talk the it would take a perfect game and that is what the Wildcats did. Rollie Massimino will be forever watching over Villanova.
